Dr. Julie McMullin is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Westen’s first Vice-Provost International. Prior to her current appointment, McMullin served an 18-month secondment as Special Advisor to the Provost on Internationalization and had previously served as Acting Dean and Associate Dean Research of Western's Faculty of Social Science. Under her leadership, Western has increased its proportion of international undergraduate students threefold, has added more than a dozen “top 100” international partnerships to its roster, and has significantly increased the number of study-abroad opportunities available for Western students. Dr. McMullin is also currently a member of the Advisory Committee for the Africa Institute.
A graduate of the University of Toronto (Ph.D. 1996) and an award-winning researcher, McMullin has published extensively in high-quality journals and has published three books. Her research focuses on social inequality with a particular emphasis on the intersection of age, gender, class, and ethnicity in the domains of paid work and families.
